When Seph Hale returns to the fog-bathed island of Caligo Harbor after her mother’s untimely death, she expects dust, unwanted memories, and grief that drips from the walls. What she doesn’t expect is the stranger lounging in her parlor like he owns the peeling wallpaper—with a razor-sharp grin, funereal charm, and a dangerously seductive tether who calls himself Death. His arrival brings news worse than the creaking floorboards: Seph is dead, too. She just—doesn’t remember how.
Reeling from the revelation of not only her death, but that her childhood home doubles as a literal portal to Hell, the Underworld affirms it also has a macabre sense of humor. Waiting in the hellfire is an ex Seph thought she’d long buried—literally—thriving, smug, and annoyingly handsome in damnation. His ubiquity is a thorny reminder that some relationships can’t die, but instead, bleed out.
As Seph and her mismatched band of the Damned hunt for answers of her demise on the hollowed ground of her hometown before her soul is eviscerated for good, she realizes the island’s horrors stretch further than tide lines.
