Seph Hale returns to her hometown of Caligo Harbor after her mother’s sudden death with a single suitcase, her cat, and the intention of clearing out her childhood home. But impetus comes in the form of Grim—a charming intruder claiming to be sent from Hell—and a cruel truth.

Desperate to seek out the answers to a death she has no memory of, Seph begs Grim for one last mercy: tie his soul to hers before it begins to sunder and she can no longer pass on.

As she retraces her past with Grim and Bran, an ex-boyfriend she’s—figuratively and literally—buried, memories surface with the rising tides. Seph learns that her death is only the harbinger of bigger revelations, serving as both key and curse to unmask a long-guarded secret about her own mortality that exposes a life built on lies, and a manifestation that has always lingered just beyond the fog.
